Thinking about becoming a beachbody coach? Here’s my experience!

This blog post provides insight from my own experience of becoming a health and wellness coach for BODi (formally known as Beachbody). I will be sharing the ups, the downs, the why’s and the how’s. Everyone’s experience is different! So keep in mind that my personal experience may differ from other’s. But I do believe that we all have similar goals in the beginning when we start our coaching journey and build our business.

WHY I CHOSE TO BECOME A COACH AND NOT JUST A CUSTOMER.

In 2021, I was 6 months postpartum with my first baby and feeling pretty lost. I have a strong health and fitness background but this was a time where I just had no schedule or consistency. I was home most of the time and didn’t have access to my Planet Fitness gym membership anymore due to COVID. One day, I stumbled upon a YouTuber and fell in love with her morning routine videos! She was smashing out her workouts early in the AM and helping other women stick to this routine as well. She kept saying that this was her full-time job and she worked from home. I was immediately intrigued, so I sent her a message! She responded with great friendliness and positivity and told me that she was a Beachbody Coach. It took zero convincing for me to sign up. I knew in my heart that this was my calling. I love all things health and fitness but I put my own flare on it by creating a balance between striving towards your goals but not feeling restricted or deprived.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO BECOME A COACH?

With just $39.95 to sign up and just $15.95 monthly after that, you are all set to start your business! Additionally, you are proof that the products are successful! Once you sign up, you do have access to hundreds of workouts on your app but it is important to participate in new programs that are released as well as consume at least one of the products such as the superfood Shakeology or Energize pre workout to not only support your own journey, but support your customers! With a coach status, you receive 25% discount on all products!

YOU SAID THIS CAN BE A BUSINESS, SO WILL I BE GETTING PAID?

YES! But like any other business you build from scratch, you will get paid based on your results. The goal is to invite customers to join your team as well as invite individuals to sign up as coaches who will be apart of your downline. Some coaches make a supplemental income and others make a substantial income, leading them on a path of making this gig their full-time job! That’s the beauty of it! It is entirely up to you! You will get out what you put into your business.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT COACHING AND WHAT ARE SOME KEY BENEFITS

For me, I’ve always had an itch for personal training and being a health promoter. I know how good exercising and eating nutrient-dense foods makes me feel and I want everyone to experience this too! My medical background (I have been a nurse for over 10 years and a nurse practitioner for over 5) also invokes the need to help individuals to live a holistic lifestyle to the point where they don’t need medications such a blood pressure medicine or diabetic pills. Seeing people’s health improve and their confidence boosted is so rewarding! Plus I love the accountability we all have on each other! I just feel that I achieve my goals so much faster because I have girls counting on me to show up! Another key benefit is the fact that I am my own boss and I have the flexibility and freedom to run my business when I want and where I want!

THINGS THAT I STRUGGLE WITH WHILE COACHING

There are some downsides! I will be completely honest! I’d say the biggest downfall for me is the inviting, which is a staple to the success of your business. What this looks like is you are on social media and messaging people to join a fitness challenge you are running or inviting them to become a member of your team. I am a huge introvert at heart and I hate “bothering” people. There were times where I definitely had to swallow my pride and put myself out there for my business. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t! That’s just the lay of the land! I have found that if I am in a season where I just don’t feel like personally inviting potential customers, I can actually use a more passive marketing tool to put my information out there that doesn’t involve Facebook or Instagram. This method is great for when I am on maternity leave or on vacation and I don’t even have to invite one person! My content is constantly out in the universe and it is seen by thousands of people!

THIS SYSTEM IS MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING, CORRECT? ISN’T THAT PYRAMID SCHEMING?

This is where a lot of opinions will be thrown about. Yes, BODi or Beachbody is considered an MLM business model, which basically means that instead of the company paying for excessive advertising/social marketing or putting their products in big name stores such as Walmart, Target and GNC, it pays representatives (coaches) to use the products, promote and bring in new customers. As a coach, you receive discounts on everything and you get paid a percentage of what the company makes in sales for programs and products. A pyramid scheme by definition consists of enrolling participants in a company but there is never a product or service that is sold. Beachbody’s business model consists of an enormous line of highly effective fitness programs and nutritional, therefore is not considered a scheme.

This can still ruffle a few feathers. The way I see it…I am able to build a business and make a potential income on MY OWN TERMS. I do not have a boss to answer to. I am not required to come to an office everyday. I can take time off if needed (like when I’m about to have a second baby!) and just pick up where I left off. Of course, consistency is key to success and how much money you will actually make but for the most part, I can make some extra cash by simply working out, eating healthy and keeping others accountable! There is ZERO pressure to do anything with your business. Maybe you want to become a coach to just receive the discounts or to have a small community of moms to support each other through their workouts. It is completely up to you, Boss!

SO WHO SHOULD BE A BEACHBODY COACH?

Only the person behind the screen reading this post can answer that! Like I said, I was NOT a social media buff when I started. I took no part in social media platforms for 5+ years when I became a coach. I had never heard of “stories” or “reels.” I didn’t know that coaches even existed online! Funny enough, creating reels is one of my favorite things about the business! I allows me to use my creative side and add music clips and inspirational quotes to hopefully encourage just one other person out there to put their health first!

For me, I enjoy every minute I put into my business because I get to share/create content that revolves around health and wellness! I get to use my artsy side to create beautiful images/videos that speak to me and come from my heart. I get to communicate with wonderful people who are all going through personal struggles but want to live life at its fullest. And most importantly, I have an opportunity and the ability to support my family right from my own fingertips! What could be a better reason than that??
